The Sky Rovers Flying Club, Inc. is a group of individuals who have come together to share the enjoyment of building and flying radio controlled miniature aircraft.

The roots of the Club go back to the early 1960’s. The Sky Rovers was initially a control line club, but since many members wanted to get into R/C flying the Club split up and reformed to fly R/C in 1965.

The Club was incorporated in 1971. During the early years of this organization the members flew from various locations ranging from public school grounds to land rented from a member’s family. In all cases, these were only temporary situations and the members began to realize that they would need a field of their own, if they were to survive as an organized Club.

After several years of moving from site to site, a piece of suitable property was finally in 1975 and a purchase offer was made on the property. It took almost three years of intense negotiations before the papers were finally signed and the Club became land owners.

September 24, 1978 was the day of the field dedication and grand opening. In memory of the late Harold Ford, one of the founding members of the Club, the field was dedicated as Ford Field. A pair of brick and concrete pillars was constructed at the entrance to the field and contains a memorial plaque which was unveiled at the end of the ceremony by Mrs. Harold Ford. The event was given coverage in the local newspaper.

We are very proud of our facility and take great pride in being one of the few R/C clubs to own their property. Because of the problems the founders of the club had in acquiring the property and with the full realization that it would be virtually impossible to find another location, each member is very careful in how they use the field for R/C flying. Disrespect for neighboring property owners or other careless use could cause us to loose our right to fly and thus end our enjoyment of this hobby and or sport.

The facilities are also available to all members for family picnics and other family gets together. You, as a member will be reasonable for clean-up, you must carry out what you carry in.

Family Reunions, larger activities and outside groups will require Club approval.
